Department Grammar Exam
- Successful completion (70%) is a
prerequisite for English 482 Advanced
Grammar.
- Students scoring below 70% will be
required to take English 120 English
Grammar, before taking English 482.
- This exam is required of all students
majoring in English.
- The test is structured as follows:
- Section I: Noun phrases, pronouns,
clauses, transitive verbs, and linking verbs
- Section II: Nouns--common, proper,
concrete, abstract, collective
- Section III: Verb forms
- Section IV: Adjectives and adverbs
- Section V: Propositions, conjunctions,
interjections, and expletives
- Section VI: Active and passive voice
- Section VII: Subjects, direct objects,
indirect objects, subjective complements,
and objects of propositions
- Section VIII: Types of sentences: simple,
compound, complex, compound- complex
- Section IX: Declarative, imperative, and
interrogative sentences
- Section X: Rewrite incorrect sentences

PPST (Basic Skills Test)
- Required for admission to the Teacher
Education program.
- Students with the following ACT/SAT
scores are exempt from this exam: ACT

Teacher Exam)
- Required of Teacher Education graduates;
includes a general knowledge test and
subject area tests in literature,
composition, and pedagogy.

Major Field Test
Register for this discipline-specific test
in the spring of the senior year.

GRE (Graduate Record Exam)
- This test is not required for
graduation. Many graduate schools, however,
require this exam. It includes general
knowledge and discipline sections.
